Returning to Mount Pleasant’s Shem Creek a few days later (please see previous post) was a very chilly but rewarding experience. Mostly, that was due to three pairs of Mergansers vying for feeding territory with some Egrets.
The Mergansers were in constant motion, diving for snacks at every opportunity …
… but the Egrets managed to harvest their share, as well.
Both groups kept wary eyes on each other …
… until the Mergansers decided to move on.
Cormorants are ever-present along the Shem Creek boardwalk, occasionally taking time out to dry their feathers.
Majestic Egrets are plentiful and seemingly willing posers.
